Our History
The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), was originally founded in England in October 1891 and was known as the Institute of Secretaries. In 1902 it was granted its Royal Charter and became the Chartered Institute of Secretaries. The name has since been changed to The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) to more fully describe the status and capabilities of the members.
Today, CGI has divisions in many countries of the world. The Institute in Nigeria was established more than 50 years ago as an associate of the international body. The Nigerian Chapter was granted autonomy in August, 1988, and incorporated under the Companies Act 1968. It became Chartered by Decree 19 of 1991 (Now INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SECRETARIES AND ADMINISTRATORS OF NIGERIA ACT CAP I13 LFN 2004).
What we do
As work practices and employers’ requirements change, the Institute’s Post-Qualifying Education (PQE)helps Chartered Secretaries adapt by updating their knowledge and skills throughout their career. This is achieved through a range of programmes e.g. conferences, workshops, public lecture, roundtable on corporate governance and Mandatory Continuing Professional Education (MCPE).
Why ICSAN is different
Our Qualifying Scheme is unique. No other professional body provides a post graduate qualification that is as broad based as the ICSAN’s. Chartered Secretaries and Administrators are trained in business, corporate governance, company law, management, finance, administration, management information system and company secretaryship.
