What is CSIA?

The Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA) is an international federation of professional bodies that promotes the best practices in Corporate Secretarial, corporate governance, and compliance services.  It is the international federation of governance professional bodies for corporate secretaries and governance professionals and represents those who work as frontline practitioners of governance throughout the world.  It is recognised by the OECD as the global voice of for this industry and its representatives sit on the OECD corporate governance roundtables.

CSIA is a Geneva registered global organisation whose mission is ‘to develop and grow the study and practice of Secretaryship, to improve professional standards, the quality of governance practice and organisational performance’.  CSIA’s vision is to be ‘The Global Voice of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals’.  Its intent is to be heard and respected by the international business community as well as government agencies such as the WTO, UN, ILO, OECD and many others.

The current and previous financial crises have shown that paying lip service to good governance is no longer enough.  To succeed over the long-term companies must put good governance at the core of their businesses.  What CSIA does is both practical in orientation and applied in nature and as the accounting firm Deloitte notes, ‘an effective corporate secretary leads to further growth of confidence from potential investors’.

Who are we?

CSIA was established in 2010 as a not-for-profit organisation committed to improving the recognition and understanding of the practice of corporate secretaryship and the role of the Corporate Secretary, and to work to improve governance standards in general.

CSIA is an inclusive, global organisation with sixteen national organisation members representing some 70,000 Corporate Secretaries in more than 70 countries.  Its ranks are collectively responsible for delivering four roles:  compliance; advice; support; and professional administration (made up from legal, governance, ethics, business finance, accounting, secretarial, strategic and administration professionals).
