Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa (CSSA) was established in 1909 and comprises Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland. It is the leading professional body for company secretaries and corporate administration in the public and private sectors and acts as the professional forum for 2,447 members and 924 students. Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa celebrated their centenary year in 2009. Our members possess a broad knowledge base and the flexibility to operate effectively as professional company secretaries and administrators in positions which cut across traditional specialist boundaries. This excellence is reflected in the recognition of the qualification for membership across the globe. They are valued for their practical competence in accounting, company secretaryship, taxation and corporate governance, general management and business administration. Associate (ACIS) and Fellow (FCIS) membership grant eligility to act as Accounting Officer under The Close Corporations Act No. 69 of 1984 and for such members to use the title “Chartered Secretary”.
The mission of the Institute is the promotion of Corporate Governance. Members are required to observe the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical behaviour in all their activities, including retaining knowledge currency through the continuing professional development (CPD).
